She never thought it would come to this.
She had done what was asked, but with
the wrong attitude. Now despised and
abused, Hagar ran for her life. The Bible
tells us the Angel of the Lord found Sarai’s
maid by a spring of water in the wilderness between Kadesh and
Bered in the land of Israel.
“Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from, and where are you going?”
“I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”
“Go back to your mistress and submit to her. I will multiply your descendants.”
The promise was not without cost. It would take courage to return to a place
where she had been hurt and cast out. Yet the encounter in the wilderness
with The Living One overshadowed Hagar’s fears. And gave hope for her future.
She called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are The God Who Sees; for
she said, “Have I also seen Him who sees me?”
When you come to that desert place, remember there is One who sees and knows you. Yes He sees you, knows your name, and understands you like no other. The same God who revealed himself to Hagar longs to fill the empty places of your heart and life with with hope from His Springs of living water.
The well was called Beer Lahai Roi meaning, ‘Well of the Living One who Sees Me.’ Genesis 16
The road in the wilderness
led to the
Well of the Living One.
The One who saw my tears
and knows my name,
filled my thirst
with rivers of living water,
and I will never be the same.
