Did We See Jesus There?

This was a trip of a life-time for Dave and I. A dream finally fulfilled. A great way to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary!

We saw and experienced so much in the ten day trip to Israel. I am still trying to process it all, but here are a few pictures we took and some thoughts I’ve had thus far.

We  spent the first part of our trip in Tiberias, touring many biblical sights while there.

Sunset over the Sea of Galilee

I didn’t see Jesus there, as I looked out over the Sea of Galilee but in my heart and mind I saw Him…Choosing his disciples one by one. Giving them the call and challenge,
“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”

I didn’t see Jesus there, but I sailed on the Sea of Galilee I’d read about for so many years.
I thought about the night Jesus came walking on water and His terrified disciples thinking He was a ghost. His immediate words of comfort to those on the wind tossed boat; “Take heart; it is me. Do not be afraid.”

And my heart, in awe and wonder wept for the times fear threatened and unbelief spoke…and like the disciples cried. “Lord, don’t you care?”

I thought about Peter’s dare…“Lord if it’s you, command me to come”.
and Jesus’ quick response; “Come.” And I can just imagine the impetuous lover of Jesus, getting out of the boat of safety and walking on water…till fear replaced faith and shaky feet sank.

And Peter’s humbled desperate cry, “Lord save me”!
And our Lord taking Peter’s hand with a question as they got back on the boat;
“You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

No, I didn’t see Jesus there, but I felt His presence and marveled at the people whose pilgrimage had brought them to this place. And I knelt before the One who still offers peace and rest to weary pilgrims.

Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens
and you will find
 rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28,29
