I’ve always appreciated the honesty
of Thomas. It mattered not when he
heard the reports of others who had
seen Jesus face to face the morning
he rose from the grave. This doubting
disciple wanted proof, and declared
he would not believe unless he could see the nail prints in Jesus hand.
Jesus knew the heart of Thomas. And He knows ours.
Is it not true we are sometimes tempted to doubt God’s promises when things don’t turn out the way we had expected?
Sometimes our minds and emotions tempt us to beg God for proof before we will believe. That’s when we need to renew our minds by reading the good news the Bible speaks of.
So with that said, the following is my declaration of belief in the One who loved me enough to die on Calvary’s cruel cross in my place that I might have eternal life. (John 3:16)
The stripping, beating, and cursing.
The casting of lots for his robe.
The crowning of thorns
on Golgotha’s hill.
The cross
and the nails.
The perfect sacrificial
Lamb of God,
Savior and Redeemer,
the body and blood of Jesus—
wounded and bleeding,
broken and spilled out,
dying for you and for me.
The prayer,
“Father forgive them, they
know not what they do”.
The loud voice,
“It is finished.
Into your hands
I commit my spirit.”
The veil, torn into
from top to bottom.
The open door
to the Holy of Holies
inviting whosoever
will may come.
The third day
angels rolled away
the stone and
Jesus rose from
the grave.
He Arose!
The empty tomb,
his appearing to
the women,
Peter and other disciples.
Then Jesus said to Thomas,
“Put your finger here and look at my hands. Reach out your hand and put it
into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” John 20:27
