The Brother With Another Mother

The knock on the door came as no surprise.
Dave and I were expecting someone to stop
by and talk with us about mineral rights for
our land.

Art said it was a divine appointment. He said
he needed to talk to somebody that day,
so God sent him to our home.

It was an instant heart connection. Isn’t that the way
it is when you meet someone for the first time, only
to discover you are from the same family! Brothers and sisters in Christ! Born-again into
God’s family by faith in Jesus Christ.

Art and Dave might have been clones. Same personalities.  People loving, life of the party extroverts.
With only one difference. They were more like father and son.

Drawn by the Spirit to the young man who sat on our couch, we listened to Art’s life story, then shared
ours.It seemed like we had welcomed a long-lost brother home, when in reality we had just met. The
meeting that should have taken place at the front door, lasted four hours in the comfort of our home.

Just before noon the next morning, another knock on our door put a smile on our face. Art had
forgotten to get Dave’s signature the night before. I had just taken my southern jalapeno cornbread
out of the oven, and didn’t hesitate to ask him to stay for lunch.

Two hours later Art left to drive to his home, promising he would bring his wife and baby the next
time he was in town.

Dave and I smiled at each other as the car backed out of our driveway. Had we just entertained an
an angel? Not really.

The stranger was just a special brother with another mother. Yet through the grace of God, we’re all
from the same family. The family of God.

God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that
his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. (Romans 8:29).

  1. What a great story! I’m sure Dave and his “long lost” brother with another mother fell into alignment immediately! You are so right, we never know who we’re entertaining or who the Lord may bring to our door from His body. Love you.

  2. Love His joyful surprises!!!!!! What a special visitation – those meetings makes you wonder if it was for them or for us – a showing of God’s personal love for each of us.
